Yoga supplies, Mats, and Apparel

The popularity of yoga exercise has grown in recent years. As its popularity increases so do the types of yoga that people practice. While some people prefer to do yoga in studios, there are others who are more likely to perform it in the solitude of their own homes.

Anybody, regardless of age or gender, can do yoga. There are yoga videos that target introducing children to the exercise. Other yoga DVDs have been developed specifically for senior citizens or those who are unable to move with full mobility. Some doctors are now recommending pregnancy yoga to their patients. There have been several yoga books written that explain the advantages of doing this kind of yoga.

Power yoga is often practiced by those who are more interested in building muscle while working out. Power yoga is similar to classic yoga, but it puts more focus on increasing strength as well as flexibility. Despite the intense physical aspect, power yoga – like all other types of yoga, is very mental. It helps participants seek inner-peace and is centered on self-discipline. Poses are held longer than in other types of yoga and breathing is altered more drastically.

Another well-practiced form of yoga is Bikram yoga, also known as hot yoga. This is a style of yoga was developed by Bikram Choundry, founder of the Yoga College of India. It is often called hot yoga because it is supposed to be practiced in a yoga studio heated to 105 degrees. This is one environment in which proper yoga apparel comes in handy. Typical yoga pants might be too hot to wear when performing this type of yoga. Workouts are guided by a specific dialogue and include 26 poses and two styles of breathing. Classes are designed for beginners and experts alike.

Bikram Choundry was one of the first people in the world to illustrate the healing ability of yoga. When he was lifting weights at age seventeen he injured his knee so severely that his doctor did not think he would ever walk again. Choundry was unwilling to accept this diagnosis and immediately began a physical therapy routine based on yoga. Six months later, he had made a full recovery.

Today physical therapists often recommend yoga as exercise for those recovering from almost any type of injury. It is especially helpful to those with back injuries. Yoga supplies like yoga mats, balls and blocks are often included in rehabilitative routines because they are useful in increasing a person’s range of motion and flexibility. Stretching straps, balls, blocks and mats are among the most commonly found items in yoga bags. Yoga kits may also include music, DVDs and motivational books.

Although there are different types of yoga that focus on different parts of a person’s body, the fact is that every kind of yoga is about much more than only physical strength. Yoga is recommended as much for the mental benefits that it brings to users as much as it is for the physical benefits that people experience.
